My storm wizard, Danielle, has been wandering around Marleybone's rooftops for awhile now. This is my third trip through, but since the last update I'm having to un-learn all my old habits. It used to be safest walking straight down the middle, stopping on the ramps if I need a break. As soon as a battle finishes run in toward the center. Now I'm learning to hug the edges, and backpedal into a corner coming out of fights. My old reflexes can't keep up with mount speeds - at least not yet - so I keep having to dismount and walk to sneak around the corners.
When my oldest son, Alex Icerunner (the one who introduced me to the game), found out I was heading into Knight's Court he said, "Me too!" Alex doesn't play often so he's still on his first wizard, I've had two Grandmasters in that time and caught up to him again. Anyway, he was so excited to have a quest buddy I couldn't turn him down. We stormed through Knight's Court two nights ago without much trouble, and (with a little emergency healing from Daddy's Grandmaster) we ran Katzenstein's Lab last night. It took longer than expected, about half an hour past Alex's bedtime, but we let him stay up to finish it. Alex and I both had a lot of trouble navigating without getting into street fights. If one of us got caught, the other one kept going toward the next goal so the fighter could port to them after the battle. And of course, the other one would get stuck too a couple of rooftops down the way. Ugh! At least we both got levels out of it, 29 for him and 34 for me.
Anyway, now that we finished the Lab and Watson sent us to the Museum to talk to Sherlock Bones, Alex wants to run the Counterweights and Big Ben in one big marathon tomorrow night so he can move on to Mooshu. He and I have very different playing styles. He wants to get from beginning to end as quickly as possible, follow the main story quests one after another in a direct assault at Malistaire. He'll only go back for side quests if he absolutely has to, or if he's super-close to levelling up to new spell. I prefer to clear each area as I come to it, side quests and all, so there's no need to backtrack. He wants to finish ASAP, I don't want to miss out on anything along the way.
Thank you, KingsIsle, for making a game that's so much fun to play for both our styles! Oh, and for giving this fortysomething mom a great conversation starter with my almost-teenaged son.
